After a decent showing against Vikings, GSAS hoped to have a good performance against Gaelic. The game started well for GSAS with some possession and incisive passing. However, after some errors in midfield and defense Gaelic striker got a chance at goal and scored pass the keeper. GSAS continued to push and defend well and got their chance after Peter nicked the ball away from Gaelic’s defender and Dee finished the loose ball to make it 1-1 before the half time. In the half time GSAS teammates were focused and it felt that the game could go either way with some luck and precision in the final third. However, GSAS conceded before the water break and couldn't recover after. After the water break GSAS tried to push but conceded another 2 goals on the counter. The first one was deflected and the last goal was a tap in. Overall it was a good, fair game of football and referees did well to control the game. We wish Gaelic lions good luck for the remaining games.
It was a very toasty Saturday morning in GESS for our encounter with GSAS. First half was quite even, both teams had half chances. Fionnan scored a cracking goal from outside the box to open the scoring. Unfortunately, Fionnan got a nasty injury that left us with 11 for the remainder of the game. GSAS equalized before half time with a high pressure turnover leading to a good finish 1v1 with Derek. Second half started much brighter for us, Willie turned the ball over on the wing and we broke forward in numbers. Rhys took a shot that the keeper could not hold and Ben was the only player sharp enough to follow and pass the ball into an empty net. We got a third with a bit of fortune from a deflected shot. 3-1 with about 20 minutes to go. We continued to defend well as a unit and be direct in our attacks and it paid off with Sean grabbing two more goals to put some gloss on the result, both set up by Rhys. Credit to both sets of players and the referee's for ensuring some very good football was played in that heat. Best of luck for the rest of the season GSAS!
